You can collect other benefits when you’re on workman’s compensation; however, if you’re on Social Security disability and you’re not of retirement age, there’ll be a set-off against your recovery. You’re only technically allowed to collect whatever workman’s compensation pays you, the maximum. So say a person’s getting $1,000 a month Social Security disability and say their workman’s compensation should be like $500 a week, so that’s $2,000 a month—you can’t collect that $3,000 a month, you’re only allowed to collect that $2,000 a month. However, if you’re past retirement age, if you’re over 65 or 66 depending on when you’re injured or when your birth date is, you’re allowed to still collect your Social Security insurance check alongside your workers’ compensation check.
